Backing up SkyVault Analytics

If you are backing up content for SkyVault Analytics, you must back up the four databases: pentaho_di, quartz, jackrabbit, and hibernate.
These instructions show you how to back up your content.
CAUTION:
Only perform a backup while the system is running (a hot backup) if your relational database supports this. If you are unsure, perform a backup while the system is down (a cold backup).
Note: There is no requirement to synchronize the Analytics backup with the SkyVault backup, as there is no direct dependency between data stored in SkyVault and data stored in the Analytics server or in the warehouse database, however ensure that the frequency of backups is consistent between the two systems.
  1. Log in to the Analytics server as the user that performed the installation.

Performing the backup as this user is important to avoid any issues with operating system file permissions.

  2. If you are performing a cold backup, stop the Analytics server.
  3. Take a complete backup of the pentaho_di, quartz, jackrabbit, and hibernate databases.

Use your preferred database backup tool to perform the backup.

    1. Authenticate as the main database user for each database (for example, SkyVault for the Analytics server, jcr_user for JCR, hibuser for Hibernate, and pentaho_user for Quartz).
    2. Perform the backup for each database.
  4. At regular intervals, backup the ba-server directory.

Ensure you stop the Analytics server before you run the backup, and ensure that there are no processes running.
